Of dinosaur bones

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

You know how people dig dinosaurs and other bones of prehistoric creatures in places like China and Indonesia, and there are none here. I mean our country has a lot of water in it. Don’t reptiles like that? Meow added that we have crocodiles here: Big crocodiles, and they’re like close relatives of dinosaurs. They should be thriving here like chickens. I mean the environment here (I assume that the proximity we have from the equator would not have changed that much), it’s a habitat that’s good for them.

Bakit ba walang nahuhukay na dinosaur dito? Of course, beside the obvious reason that we don’t have paleontologists here… I think that nobody is interested in looking for dinosaur bones or any other bones here.

My own room

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

I arrived home late.

The room that I shared with my brother is all mine now. He is getting married this month. I guess I felt a bit sad.

My brother and I, I guess, has gotten closer as we got older. Growing up, we never had much in common. He was fairly goodlooking, amiable, was popular in in school, engaged in sports… and I am not — just the opposite.

My mother got sad. I guess, she just realized how it’s like to have the nest being left. Boom! My brother’s not perfect but he’s far more affectionate than me.

He was the one with the biggest appetite.

I just have all my things in the room, my books that used to be lying on the floor are now in the shelves that he used to place his trash. Nobody will be borrowing my clothes anymore, I guess I’ll no longer be complaining that I haven’t seen my jacket for a long time now nor will I get irritated by him wearing the jeans that I like.

Nobody will be borrowing my computer anymore. And I could now sleep without hearing his loud snoring or his late arrival smelling like chico.

The room is surprisingly clean, I have to maintain it that way now coz I can no longer pass the blame on my brother.

It’s weird. I guess, I too am a bit sad.

That’s OK. Life has taught me to just pick up with what I have, and move on.

I wonder if he’s gonna give me something on my birthday. Probably, like always… wala!

literati

We tried playing literati a few nights ago.

Pansin nyo napaka-chatty ko sa YM. Hehehe.

Anyway, it was fun. It’s like scrabble. Unfortunately, I lost.

Facebook and Friendster teaches us

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I always hear people these days go: Friendster, yuck! or Friendster Baduy!

For years, Friendster has been the number one social networking website in the country. Myspace was not able to topple it, Multiply threatened it. But Filipinos just love Friendster…. until now.

So enters Facebook. More interesting, interactive and user-friendly. It is uncluttered. It has apps that you can use personally and you can play games. You can catch up with people you know. Classmates from so long ago can track you down so easily.

Now Friendster is forgotten, almost to the point if disgust. Friendster, that was soooo last year. Duh.

When Myspace and Multiply came out, Friendter competed by allowing personalizing the themes. Made things cluttered but it did work. Now what they doesn’t work.

That is how easily people can discard a habit (even a lifestyle) for something trendier. Sure, we can go for the innovation but do we have to feel aghast? Why are we so engrossed by the number of people using something better and be disgusted by something new?

Like Twilight,I think this tells us something.

Something about human nature. Sure, it’s Friendster. It doesn’t really qualify as tangible. But it was a part of our life before.

Someday it may go to the ranks of  passe things in the Internet, the way how mIRC has been forgotten. But at least it’s still there.

Reading books on a pleasant weekend

Monday, November 16th, 2009

First day of work. The weekend was too short.

I am glad that I was able to read books again. I think it’s been months since last I was able to read books.

I was able to finish Carl Hiaasen’s Hoot. Funny book. No, it was a hilarious book that had one of the things I like — weird characters. I always enjoy a book with weird (or damaged, either one) characters.

While waiting for Meow last Sunday, I dropped by NBS. Again, di ko napigilan ang aking sarili at napabili ako ng graphic novel ulit. Yung Madame Xanadu: Vol.1 Disenchantment.

New Blog Post on my New Web Host Part X

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Finally, I am blogging again.

Long story. Because I do not like paying anymore, I decided to quit my paid webhost. Then, I decided to use a free host that, I later learned, disabled SMTP connection, which is used by Akismet that I love because I hate SPAM, then I got annoyed that I was getting too many spam.

Then because there are site issues with my registrar, I go too lazy to contact them to manually configure my DNS servers (but I still love them). So here I am now. I was planning to try Joomla but I got confused by the interface, so I installed wordpress again. And Akismet works well here! And it’s free!

Sana andito pa yung readers ko. Di ko na rin kayo nabisita kasi:

I had technical problems  (not to be too redundant). Work (I always blame work). I waste too much time working, I’d rather stare at the wall than work. Meow’s dad died. She was very close to her dad. She’s not very close to her mom . Actually, her mom doesn’t like her. So it does happen. It’s a story that would probably make a cheezy telenovela. She ran away and nobody looked for her. We looked for a house and she ended up with her friend for now. We plan to be housemates next year. Housemates because we are wholesome.

Yes! I still have a job. I am a voice writer/editor but because I am not very good at voice writing, I am more into the editing and stuff. I am actually fairly good at it considering that I am a newbie and my annoyingly bad written blog (but of course they do NOT read my blog).

I have so many stories to tell. I have been creating drafts in my mind but it has evaded me.

Hello world!
